Which massage is right for you?

Would you love to relax and unwind, but still want a massage you can really feel? Do you regularly experience muscle tension, or are you simply looking for some time to yourself? Then it helps to know which type of massage best suits your needs. At Body Care for Men in Amsterdam, I offer several types of massage. Each has its own character and intensity. What they all have in common is personal attention and a treatment tailored to what your body needs at that moment.
Relaxation massage – peace for body and mind
When some men think of a relaxation massage, they imagine a very gentle massage. But relaxation doesn't mean the massage has to be so light that you can barely feel it. Many men actually prefer a firm, satisfying massage that also helps them completely unwind. During this massage, I use warm oil and slow, flowing massage strokes. I adjust the pressure to whatever feels comfortable for you. The main focus is on relaxing your body as a whole and letting go of the stresses of everyday life. A relaxation massage is ideal when you have a lot on your mind, feel tired, or simply need a moment to yourself. On the heated massage table, there's absolutely nothing you need to do. Just lie back, relax, and enjoy.
Sports massage – for muscles that work hard
If you exercise regularly or put your muscles under physical strain in other ways, you may experience tired, stiff, or tense muscles. Think of weight training, running, cycling, or other physical activities that demand a lot from your muscles. A sports massage specifically targets these heavily used muscles. Using focused, more intensive massage techniques, I pay particular attention to the muscle groups that have been working hard. The massage can help reduce muscle tension, temporarily stimulate blood circulation, and leave your muscles feeling more flexible and relaxed. Sports massage can also be beneficial if your job involves a lot of physical work. I always adjust the intensity to your body and what you need at that moment. Sports massage is particularly suitable for men who regularly put their muscles under strain and want to give them some extra attention, whether after exercise or between demanding physical activities.
Trigger point massage – for muscles under Ccnstant tension
Do you spend a lot of time sitting at a computer, working in an office, or staying in the same position throughout the day? If so, you may notice that your neck, shoulders, and back often feel tense or stiff. Sitting in the same position for long periods without moving much can put excessive strain on certain muscles. Sensitive areas, known as trigger points or muscle knots, can develop in these muscles. These points may cause localised pain, but sometimes the discomfort can also radiate to other areas of the body. During a trigger point massage, I focus specifically on these tense and sensitive areas. By applying targeted pressure, I aim to reduce muscle tension and help improve your freedom of movement. The treatment can sometimes feel quite intense, but the pressure is always adjusted to your comfort level. This massage is particularly suitable for men who spend much of their working day sitting, work long hours in front of a screen, or frequently remain in the same position. If you regularly experience tight shoulders, a stiff neck, or a tired, aching back, a trigger point massage may also be a good choice. I can also show you some simple exercises using a trigger point ball, so you can continue looking after your muscles at home. Regular movement and changing your posture throughout the day remain important.
Combination massage – the best of both worlds
The combination massage is the most popular treatment at Body Care for Men. And it's easy to understand why. Many men want to relax while also giving their tense muscles some extra attention. During this massage, I combine trigger point techniques with slow, relaxing massage strokes. This allows me to focus on sore or tense muscles while also helping your body unwind. Perhaps you carry a lot of tension in your shoulders or back, but you also want to enjoy a soothing, relaxing massage. In that case, this combination could be the perfect choice. What makes this massage especially enjoyable is that I can tailor the entire treatment to your body and personal preferences. Sometimes the emphasis is more on relaxation, while at other times the focus is more on relieving muscle tension.
Trauma-informed massage – safety and trust
For some people, physical touch doesn't always feel naturally comfortable. Difficult life experiences, prolonged stress, or trauma can make it challenging to relax during a massage. Trauma-informed massage is a gentle, carefully tailored form of bodywork in which safety, calm, and trust are the main priorities. Rather than focusing on intensive muscle treatment, this massage is about experiencing safe, supportive touch and gradually rediscovering what it feels like to relax in your own body. With my background in mental healthcare, I pay particular attention to how stress and life experiences can affect the body. You always remain in control, and we carefully adapt the treatment to your personal boundaries and needs. This massage is not a substitute for trauma therapy, but it can offer a valuable moment of calm and connection with your body.
Which massage should you choose?
That mainly depends on what your body needs and what you're looking for. If you simply want to relax and enjoy a massage, a relaxation massage is a great choice. If your muscles feel tired from exercise or physical activity, a sports massage may be more suitable. If you have specific sore spots or areas of muscle tension, a trigger point massage could be a good option. If you'd like to combine relaxation with targeted attention to your muscles, the combination massage is probably just what you're looking for. And if physical touch sometimes feels uncomfortable or overwhelming, trauma-informed massage offers a gentle, safe, and supportive approach.
A massage that's right for you
Every man is different, and your body doesn't feel the same every day. Sometimes you may need a firm, intensive massage, while at other times all you want is to relax. That's why I always take a little time before the massage to ask how you're feeling, whether you're experiencing any discomfort, and what you prefer. During the massage, you're also welcome to let me know if you'd like more or less pressure. A good massage doesn't have to be gentle to be relaxing. And a firm massage doesn't have to be painful to feel good and be beneficial. For me, a good massage isn't just about the techniques I use. It's about giving you and your body the attention you deserve.
