Sometimes you arrive with tense shoulders, a busy mind, or simply the need to have nothing expected of you for a while. During a massage, your breathing becomes calmer and the tension slowly leaves your body. It is precisely at such a moment that something can also shift within you. A thought that keeps returning. A feeling you have not yet been able to put into words. Or the realization that something in your life needs attention. In my practice, I regularly notice how touch and conversation can complement each other in a natural way. That is why, alongside massage and body care, I also offer counseling at Body Care voor Mannen.

Body and mind are connected

Stress, emotions, and prolonged pressure do not only affect your thoughts. They can also make themselves felt in your body: shallow breathing, tense muscles, poor sleep, or difficulty truly relaxing. A massage will not, of course, solve personal problems. However, the relaxation it brings can help you step away from the busyness for a moment and become more aware of what is going on inside you. When your body settles, more space can sometimes open up in your mind as well. What previously felt unclear or distant may then come closer. You do not have to do anything with that during the massage. But if you feel the need to share something afterwards, there is space for that.

A conversation without pressure or judgment

After the treatment, we can sit down with a cup of tea and calmly reflect on whatever has come up. This might involve stress or pressure at work, a relationship, an important decision, recurring patterns, or a period in which you have lost touch with yourself. To me, counseling does not mean telling you what to do. I listen, ask questions, and help you organize your thoughts and feelings. Together, we explore what is going on, what you need, and which next step feels right for you. Without pressure, without judgment, and at your own pace. Massage and counseling can complement each other, but they do not have to. You are also welcome to come for a massage on its own, or for a conversation without a massage. You decide what you need and what you do or do not wish to share.

My background in mental health care

Before starting Body Care voor Mannen, I worked in mental health care for many years. I am qualified to MZ4 level and trained to guide and support people dealing with mental health or behavioral challenges or addiction. I bring that experience to every conversation. I understand how important it is to listen carefully, recognize signs, ask appropriate questions, and maintain clear professional boundaries. At the same time, my guidance remains personal and accessible. You do not need to know exactly what is going on or have the right words before you come. We begin with whatever you are experiencing at that moment.

What counseling in my practice is, and is not

Counseling in my practice is intended as personal guidance and an opportunity for reflection. It can help you gain greater insight into what you are feeling, what you are struggling with, and how you would like to move forward.

It is not psychological or psychiatric treatment. I do not diagnose conditions or provide psychotherapy. If your concerns require specialist care, I will discuss this openly with you and recommend contacting your GP, a psychologist, or another appropriate professional. After all, providing good support also means recognizing the limits of your own role.

A moment to arrive and reconnect with yourself

Many men are used to carrying on, solving problems by themselves, and not dwelling for too long on how they feel. Yet it can be powerful to make space for yourself from time to time, both physically and mentally. At Body Care voor Mannen in Amsterdam, I offer a calm and safe place where you do not have to keep up appearances. A place where touch can help you relax and conversation can create space for whatever needs attention. Sometimes it begins with a massage. Sometimes with a single question. And sometimes, above all, with the experience of being allowed to be completely yourself for a while.
